Madan Bhandari Foundation was established in 2009 by registration with the federal government of Nepal as a not-for-profit organization. The Foundation aims at carrying out works of social well-being for the larger good of the people and attempts thereby to follow the path of late People’s Leader Madan Kumar Bhandari by preserving, interpreting, analyzing and publicizing his thoughts. An architect and exponent of the theory of ‘People’s Multiparty Democray’, Madan Bhandari was an innovative thinker of Nepali politics, a pioneer of highest political culture and a firm champion of Nepali patriotism, democracy and human rights. He is regarded as the one plitical leader of Democratic Nepal who could stand in parallel in the global context of thinkers and philosphers. His contributions in the field of political thought, ideology as well as literature made in a relatively short period of time have remained ever memorable and unforgettable. The Foundation has been advancing his ideas by providing forums for their timely interpretation and analysis, and while in the social sector has been conducting several works of public benefit in the areas of education, culture, studies and research. The Foundation works closely with the government of Nepal, as well as with similar organizations within the country and abroad. It is not affiliated with any political party.

Vision

In conjuction with the values of People’s Leader Madan Kumar Bhandari and the Constitution of Nepal, the vision of the Foundation is to make contribution to transform Nepali Society in bringing about social justice, prosperity and equality.

Mission

Taking inspiration and guidance from the multidimensional personality of People’s Leader Madan Kumar Bhandari on the basis of his creative thoughts by studying, researching and further developing his ideas and values, the Foundation’s mission is to contribute in advancing progress of Nepali society through education, public health, entrepreneurship, sports, literature, human rights, promotion of peace and justice as well as social welfare.

Primary objectives

Major objectives of the Foundation are as follows:

  1. Promote national discourse on education, culture, politics and current affairs to evolve the Foundation as a leading Think Tank.
  2. Initiate programs for poverty alleviation and tackling unemployment, and lead specific campaigns against corruption and bad governance.
  3. Carry out research works and programs in the areas of education, public health, environment, natural resource and population management.
  4. Provide policy feedback and suggestions to different levels of government for the economic and social development of the nation.
  5. Plan and implement programs to create and maintain public opinion in favour of peace, good governance and human rights.
  6. Bring out publications as and when necessary.

Leadership

The Foundation democratically elects its National President, other office-bearers and Central Committee members in every three years through its National Convention. As per the arrangements of the Statute, the Foundation’s current Patron is former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. In addition, the Foundation has a Secretariat for running its everyday affairs and five thematic departments operating closely. Department of Education and Research remains as an inseparable part.

Activities

The Foundation regularly organizes discussion forums on the issues of national importance. Madan Bhandari Memorial College under the Foundation located at Anamnagar Kathmandu runs undergraduate and graduate programs (Master’s degrees) in Social Science, Management and Journalism. Madan Bhandari Memorial School in Gokarneshwar Municipality Kathmandu provides secondary level education to the young students. Both are community based education institutions following the ethos of Madan Bhandari. Besides, the Foundation has published scores of books, research works and papers. As per the objective of the foundation to engage in further social service through education, Madan Bhandari Education Fund has been established to support independent as well as higher education research.
