The Madan Bhandari National Award for the year 2079 was conferred upon Sherpa and Magar
Every year, the Madan Bhandari Foundation presents the “Madan Bhandari National Award,” and this year, it was awarded to Dr. Mingmar Gyalzen Sherpa for his contributions to the field of medical science and to Niru Kumari Magar for her leadership in social transformation.
On the occasion of People’s Leader Madan Bhandari’s 72nd birth anniversary, the Madan Bhandari Foundation organised a programme at the City Hall (Rashtriya Sabha Griha) on 29th June 2023, where former President Bidya Devi Bhandari presented them with the awards.
Dr. Sherpa has been involved in the field of healthcare for the past 45 years, serving the underprivileged, helpless, and communities deprived of healthcare services, particularly reducing maternal mortality rates, ensuring access to basic healthcare services, conducting rural ultrasound programmes, and playing an active role in telemedicine services in remote districts.
Similarly, despite facing challenging family, financial, and social circumstances, Magar has been dedicated to sports for the past 31 years, making a significant impact on the perception of sports and female athletes in society through her continuous commitment and dedication. She serves as a source of inspiration for the new generation of athletes.
For the Madan Bhandari National Award 2079, Sherpa was selected among 16 applicants, while Magar was chosen among five candidates for the Madan Bhandari Social Transformation National Award.
Both awards carry a cash prize of 1 lakh and a copper plate.
