'Madan Bhandari National Award' to staff nurse and driver deployed during the pandemic

Kathmandu - Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has presented the 'Madan Bhandari National Award' for 2077 BS to two health workers who are serving at the forefront of the COVID-19 pandemic. Prime Minister Oli presented the awards at a symposium and award ceremony on the theme 'People's Multi-Party Democracy of People's Leader Madan Bhandari' organized by the Madan Bhandari Foundation at the Prime Minister's residence in Baluwatar on Monday, on the occasion of the 70th birth anniversary of public figure Madan Kumar Bhandari.

The award of Rs 100,000 each was presented to Sunita Sahakari, a staff nurse from Kalikot working in the ICU of Bheri Hospital, and Bam Bahadur Gurung, an ambulance driver working at Nepal Ambulance Service, Kathmandu, during the COVID pandemic. The award was presented in appreciation of their contribution to the frontline workers who risked their lives to serve COVID-19 patients day and night, said Pemba Lama, secretary of the foundation.

A selection committee was formed under the coordination of human rights activist Sushil Pyakurel to select the award. The 'Madan Bhandari National Award', which is being presented to individuals or organizations active in various fields that have made positive contributions to society, was previously presented to comedian Mahajodi, Shaheed Park-Hetauda, ​​cardiologist Dr. Bhagwan Koirala, and social activist Mahabir Pun, 'Dhurmus Suntali Foundation', and Prof. Dr. Subodh Sharma.

Similarly, the winners of the nationwide open essay competition organized on the topic 'Nepal's Constitution and People's Leader Bhandari' were also awarded on the occasion of his birth anniversary. The awardees are Durga Poudel of Kaski (first), Prakash Pakuwal of Dolakha (second) and Basanta Singh Thagunna of Darchula (third). They were awarded Rs 15, 10, and 5,000 respectively. A committee was formed under the coordination of creator Anil Poudele to select the awards.
