Baglung – A multi-purpose covered hall has been constructed in Baglung Municipality-3, Chipleti, in the name of Jananeta Madan Bhandari. The structure was prepared by the Madan Bhandari Sports Academy over three years.
The work was stopped last year due to lack of budget. In the first year, only the work of laying the floor slope and roof was done with the budget of Rs 2 million from the Ministry of Sports. The remaining work was completed after an additional budget of Rs 1 million was added from the ministry, said Academy President Krishna Karki.
“The work of the covered hall is almost complete, sporadic work is currently being done,” he said. Work on the fence, windows, toilets, painting, etc. has been done from the latest budget. The municipality had provided land for the construction of the covered hall. The hall was built using iron truss technology.
The curved hall has been constructed to be used for sports activities as well as other social activities. The covered hall is mainly intended for badminton. The academy has stated that the covered hall can also be used for sports like taekwondo and karate if needed.
Locals will also be able to use the hall for public welfare purposes. Earlier, sports enthusiasts and locals had been complaining about the delay in its construction. Bhakta Rasaili, Chairman of the Gaihrapata Toll Improvement Committee, expressed confidence that the construction of the covered hall will help in social activities along with sports.
Ward Chairman Laxmi Baskota said that it is a good thing that the covered hall will be built to promote sports activities along with producing new players. She said that the municipality should also increase investment for the development of players and sports infrastructure.
